Animal welfare is not a statement on a page. It’s how facilities and studies are run and monitored – every day, in-life, by the people on the ground.

Drayton Animal Health is dedicated to the health and welfare of farmed animals and the safety of the food chain, and we apply that commitment across our facilities, our field networks and our study oversight.

The 3Rs: Replacement, Reduction and Refinement

All of our work follows the three ethical Rs of animal research: Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.

That means we look for appropriate alternatives where possible, we design studies to use the minimum number of animals required to answer the question properly, and we refine procedures and husbandry to reduce stress and improve welfare outcomes.

Welfare in practice

  • Study design with welfare in mind
We support study designs that are practical, proportionate and focused—so animals are not subjected to unnecessary procedures, and endpoints are clearly defined.
  • Trained teams and clear oversight
Our professional team includes Study Directors, Investigators, Monitors, Scientists and Technicians, working within GLP/GCPv disciplines where required, with documentation and data integrity built in from the start.
  • Facilities and biosecurity that support consistent care
As a Home Office Licensed establishment with Category 2 biosecurity, our facilities support consistent husbandry, controlled conditions and reliable observation—key foundations for both welfare and data quality.
  • Veterinary involvement and practical on-farm realities
Whether a study is facility-based or field-based, we ensure appropriate veterinary input and site practices that reflect real-world husbandry—so welfare standards are maintained without derailing practical delivery.
  • A straightforward commitment
We take a simple view: studies should be run well, animals should be treated with care, and the evidence produced should be credible. That’s what protects welfare, protects quality, and protects your programme.

Contact our team

If you’re planning a study and want a CRO partner who’s practical, responsive and disciplined, get in contact with our team.

Tell us the species, product type, and what you need to demonstrate, and we’ll come back with a sensible route forward and initial proposal to discuss.

A short call is often enough to confirm feasibility, timelines and the right delivery approach (facility, field, or a blend). We work confidentially and we’ll be candid early on about what’s achievable and what will de-risk your programme.
