Not every study fits neatly into a single ‘standard’ species or outcome category. Drayton Animal Health creates and supports projects in goats, specialist poultry (including pheasants, quail and guinea fowl) and other livestock species, tailoring study design and delivery to your product, target indication and data requirements.

As with all our work, we operate on a confidential basis and focus on disciplined study conduct, clear documentation and practical delivery.

What we mean by “specialist poultry”

When we say specialist poultry, we’re referring to non-chicken avian species commonly used in commercial production or specific research contexts – such as turkeys, pheasants, quail and guinea fowl – as well as other poultry types where required.

Specialist Poultry

What we can do for other farmed species:

Biologicals (vaccines and related products)
We can support vaccine programmes in goats, specialist poultry and other livestock, including:

  • GLP vaccine safety studies (where applicable to the programme and species).
  • GCPv efficacy studies (proof of concept through to onset/duration of immunity, potency and bio-equivalence where required).
  • Animal sourcing support where regulatory guidance requires specific status (e.g., sero-negative animals and SPF poultry where relevant).
  • Options for longer-term immunity studies where the product profile demands it.

Where we add real value is practical study execution and oversight – keeping the study moving, and keeping the outputs credible.

Parasitology
For cattle, goats and specialist poultry, we can support endo- and ecto-parasite studies, including:

  • Sourcing parasite-naïve animals, or animals with specific natural infestations through established collaborator networks.
  • Passaging recent field isolates and controlled challenge approaches (where appropriate).
  • Dose determination, efficacy and persistence of efficacy work.
  • Supporting lab analysis (e.g., egg/oocyst counts, larval differentiation and related parasitology endpoints).

Field studies (GCPv efficacy and safety)
If your programme is best delivered in real-world conditions, we can place and manage field studies through trusted collaborating networks:

  • Commercial-unit and local collaboration capability (via farmers, suppliers and veterinary relationships).
  • Goat and specialist poultry field studies scoped to the realities of husbandry, housing, seasonality and practical measurement.

Feed additives and coccidiostats
For goats and specialist poultry, we can support feed additive and coccidiostat programmes with:

  • Efficacy, tolerance and digestibility studies, including regulator-ready reporting where required.
  • Specialist diet formulation and manufacture support (to keep diets controlled and comparable).
  • Welfare/performance-related assessments in poultry where relevant (e.g., litter quality and leg/footpad-related observations as required by your protocol).
  • Coccidiostat experience across poultry types including pheasants (and other categories depending on the study design).

How our process works

If you’re considering a study in any livestock species a short call is the best starting point to understand study requirements to build a project outline that delivers practical timelines, sourcing considerations and documentation needs.

Talk to us about an “Other species” project

Share the species, product type and outcome required, and we’ll come back with a comprehensive and confidential route forward.

Contact our team

If you’re planning a study and want a CRO partner who’s practical, responsive and disciplined, get in contact with our team.

Tell us the species, product type, and what you need to demonstrate, and we’ll come back with a sensible route forward and initial proposal to discuss.

A short call is often enough to confirm feasibility, timelines and the right delivery approach (facility, field, or a blend). We work confidentially and we’ll be candid early on about what’s achievable and what will de-risk your programme.
